I’m hoping to hear from current or past owners of the DUFOUR 525 about their experience with the boat. I'm considering buying one and want to know how it performs especially during extended ocean passages which is the type of cruising I mainly do.

I've had a chance to sail a 525 Dufour and let me tell you that it amazed me. It's a very capable cruiser and it has great strength for bluewater sailing. It's very stable and predictable in heavier seas and the sail plan is very balanced. It's also very comfortable and looks so elegant and spacious with good storage space. Overall, it's a very solid performer, and if it's well maintained it can be a great ocean cruiser.

Sold mine a couple of years ago and I can safely say it's an excellent for ocean passages. I managed to hit 11-12 knots in some cases and the best part is that it was stable and very predictable. I think it's a great balance between performance and comfort, so is somewhat the best of both worlds. I never felt unsafe regardless of what I tried to do with it. One time I lived on it for about a month and never felt cramped. Go for it and don't think twice, but make sure to double check the condition or get someone who can inspect it in great detail.

All I'll say is to pay close attention to maintenance history, some systems on older models can need attention, especially electrical and rigging, he deep keel version is preferred for better offshore performance, and the boat has plenty of tankage and storage for extended cruising.
